The Labour Party has released its 2019 election manifesto in support of the forthcoming General Election on 12th December.   We have highlighted some of Labour’s key employment related promises below.

  • The minimum wage to increase to £10 per hour for all workers
  • Public sector workers pay to increase by 5%
  • Zero-hours contracts to be abolished
  • 4 day (32 hour) full-time working week to be introduced over ten years (with no loss of pay)
  • Statutory maternity pay to increase from 39 weeks to 52 weeks
  • Bank holidays to increase from 8 to 12 per year
  • Full employment rights to be given from day one of employment
  • Unfair dismissal rights to be strengthened
  • The Trade Union Act 2016 to be repealed giving more rights to Trade Unions and their workers
  • Large companies to be required to hand over 10% of their shares to their employees (over ten years) and hand out up to £500 a year in dividend payments
  • One-third of board seats to be reserved for elected worker-directors
  • Income tax to increase for those earning more than £80,000 pa
  • Corporation tax to increase to 26% by 2022
